New Private Onsite Gas Mains, Mains Cold Water Supply and Dedicated Fire Hydrant Mains

Scope of works:

Gas

  • 12” PN16 steel connection to the existing gas meter.
  • From meter run new 315mm SDR21 mdpe yellow gas pipe for 140m and 250mm SDR17.6 mdpe yellow gas pipe for 114m.
  • Change from PE to steel as per drawing just outside of the 2no buildings, finishing with 10” blanked gas valves inside the 2no buildings.
  • Test and purge

Mains Cold Water Supply

  • Connect into the existing 90mm mdpe on site supply. From connections fix 3” PN16 blanked isolation valves.
  • From valves run new 90mm SDR17.6 blue mdpe pipe for 162m and 63mm SDR11 blue mdpe pipe for 187m.
  • Terminate just above FFL with a 3” blanked valve in the Launch Quality Centre and a 2” blanked stopcock in the Engineering Workshop.
  • Pressure test and chlorination.

Dedicated Fire Hydrant Mains

  • Start at existing mains locations with a 3” blanked isolation valve and single backflow prevention device valve arrangement.
  • From valve run new 90mm PE100 SDR17.6 black pipe for 585m.
  • Install 10no Type 2 new fire hydrant assemblies.
  • Carry out 3no connections into the existing 90mm mdpe firefighting supply main
  • Pressure test and chlorination
  • Connections into the cast iron main.

The client have expanded their on site operation at their head office / flagship dealership, to include a larger, dedicated, Engineering Building as well as a Launch Quality Centre.

Utility Site Services were engaged in install a new on site gas main capable of 8553KWH, mains cold water supply (MCWS) and dedicated firefighting supply for the new section of the site. We were also requested to separate an existing onsite combined water main into dedicated MCWS and firefighting supply.

For the gas mains, we made a 12” steel connection to the existing 38M rotary meter. We supplied and installed 140m of 315mm MDPE gas pipe and 114m of 250mm MDPE gas pipe. We changed the 2no services from PE to steel and terminated inside each building, finishing with 10” blanked gas valves.

For the MCWS supplied and installed 162m of 90mm barrier pipe and 187m of 63mm barrier pipe. This was connected into an existing 90mm MCWS  and terminated in the two locations in a 3” blanked valve and a 2” blanked stopcock.

For the firefighting supply we installed a single backflow prevention device valve arrangement in a chamber. We provided and installed 585m of 90mm barrier pipe, connecting to 10no fire hydrant assemblies, at various points along the route. We were also asked to squeeze off an existing firefighting main and extend to link into the new setup.

Project challenges largely involved being accommodated by third parties on site as part of a wider build programme. Our teams worked around ground and build gangs, as well as their plant and equipment. To overcome this our teams varied the planned schedule of works to allow the obstacles to be removed and minimise the impact on our delivery schedule.
